ST. STANISLAUS CEMETERY

Information and Procedures

"Joseph took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in a shroud, and laid him in a tomb." The burial of the dead is a sacred obligation from time immemorial and for the Christian is a participation in the mystery of Jesus' own death, burial and resurrection. The following information and procedures for Saint Stanislaus Cemetery are therefore intended to carry out this obligation with dignity and care for all involved.

St. Stanislaus Cemetery is the property of St. Stanislaus Parish Corporation, subject to the authority of the Diocese and the Parish; therefore, all lots and graves are subject to the rules and regulations hereby published.

1. The Purchase of Lots

The purchase of a lot(s) entitles a person/family to be buried in a designated place in the cemetery and not to personal possession of the plot. Cemetery plots may be purchased by St. Stanislaus Parishioners only; however, non-parishioners may be buried in a family plot owned by a parishioner. A person is considered a parishioner after having registered and supported the community through the envelope system for at least one year.

2. Purchase of Graves and other Expenditures

The purchase of a grave is $500.00 which includes Perpetual Care (see below). The cost for opening a grave is $500.00. The burial of cremated remains is $150.00.

Burial Vaults are required in both the new and old sections. Cemetery Certificates, which only allow a family the privilege of burial, will be issued when all financial obligations are met.

3. Perpetual Care

Perpetual Care is a trust fund, mandated by the Albany Catholic Diocese, to be kept on deposit to assure funds for the maintenance of cemeteries as long as the cemetery is in existence. However, only the interest from this fund can be used and not the capital as determined by New York State Law. Perpetual Care is included in the cost of the grave.

The services rendered under Perpetual Care include:

  • keeping the grass properly trimmed and raked around the monuments, markers and corner posts.
  • the removal fallen tree limbs after storms.
  • the maintaining of the roadways in a good state of repair at all times, including snow removal and sanding during the winter.
  • maintaining the drainage systems and water supplies for flowers.
  • grading, filling and seeding new graves.

4. The Erection of Monuments and Foundations

The installation of the foundation of a head stone is to be made by persons authorized by St. Stanislaus Parish. The foundation must be at least 4 feet 6 inches in depth, and the length and width of the base of the monument. Monuments will not be permitted to be erected until all financial obligations are met. No above-ground monument shall be delivered to the cemetery before the foundation for same is completed. The only exception to this will be when written permission is obtained from the cemetery superintendent for the delivery of the monument. Delivery will then be made according to the conditions of the permit.

Memorials remain the private property of the lot owner. St. Stanislaus Parish will not be liable for any damage to monuments or for the tilting of monuments due to improper foundations, nor will it be responsible for the correction of same.

5. Concerning Shrubbery, Flowers, Floral Arrangements and Candles

So as:

  • to avoid damage to monuments, foundations and drainage systems;
  • to allow for trouble-free maintenance of the grounds around the monuments;
  • and ease in the opening of graves,

the planting of shrubbery and flowers, the placing of crushed stoned, marble chips, or other materials and the placement of enclosed statues or votive candles is not permitted. The parish will not be liable for any damage by existing shrubbery. Existing shrubbery that is dried up or withered will be removed and untrimmed shrubbery will be trimmed to proper size after the families have been notified.

Permitted are

  • potted flowers and plants on the foundations of monuments,
  • floral arrangements that are attached to the tops of monument,
  • and our national flag for holidays in remembrance of veterans.

6. Roads, Traffic, and Parking

Since the roads are quite narrow, only One-Way traffic will be allowed in the cemetery at all times to avoid congestion. Drivers should enter through the center gate (leading to the chapel) into the cemetery and exit by the two side gates.

All parking on roadways will be on the right hand side only. The parking of cars on cemetery lawns or driving on cemetery lawns is not permitted as it causes damage to the lawn. Persons in violation will be billed for their repair. The parking of cars or other vehicles within the cemetery grounds for purposes other than burials, grave visitation or parish and civil services is not permitted.
